THROTTLE ITCH

DANCE

From the deepest, darkest, coldest bowels of Canadian winter, the Throttle Itch Dance was born.

Northern Bikers know only too well how long Canadian winters can be and the real meaning of hibernation. Once the snow starts to fall, it's time to hunker down, tear down your bike, and try and fill the long, cold, months ahead waiting for a new riding season to arrive.

While wrenching on their bikes one late January night in 1997, two brothers decided that a mid winter event was needed to break things up a little and provide an opportunity for all the other holed up bikers in the area to get out and socialize with others that they hadn't seen since fall. Planning started the next day for a middle of February fundraising dance.

Since the first BOTB Throttle Itch Dance in 1997, the popularity of this event has become almost legendary in the area. Attendance has grown from 250 the first year to over 500 each year since with most of the tickets spoken for a year in advance.  As with all of our events, the Throttle Itch Dance is by invitation only.

From early in the evening until the wee hours of the morning, it's hard to find a spot on the dance floor. The band, Grant Fullerton & Jamnation keeps the house rocking  all night long with his own special mix of rock and blues and between sets, a local DJ keeps everyone hopping. The pace never slows. Near the end of the evening we have a draw for our door prize, which is usually a colour television, and throughout the night there is an ongoing raffle with hundreds of prizes and a silent auction for high end items. All of the auction and raffle prizes are donated by private individuals and corporations who support our fundraising efforts for W.I.S.H. and the developmentally handicapped. On top of all this, the dance includes an all you can eat buffet for hungry party goers.

The Throttle Itch Dance is without question our biggest fundraiser of the year and a lot of hard work goes into the planning and running of this event. That being said, it would not be as successful as it is without the support of the many contributors, and those that attend.  Everyone involved plays a big part in helping us in our fundraising efforts and their support is greatly appreciated.
